Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in Flux. We are always looking for new work from all writers. We accept submissions directly from authors (including first-time authors) and from literary agents.

Seeing your book in print is the reward for a long and arduous creative effort, and we understand and respect that. But please remember that publishing is a business, and you need to be prepared, well informed, and realistic. Use your library or the internet to find a variety of excellent "how to get published" guides. Do your homework about the publishers that you query. Please also be aware that Flux is a young-adult fiction imprint. We do not publish picture books of any kind, nonfiction, or books for readers younger than twelve or older than eighteen (this means we do not publish "middle grade" fiction). Flux publishes novel-length works of fiction (typically not fewer than 35,000 words). Please do not send individual short stories or poetry.

Please be aware that self-publishing your manuscript does not improve your chances of being accepted by a traditional publisher. In most cases, the opposite is true.

Patience is a virtue—given the volume of submissions Flux receives, it can take six months for us to respond. If a manuscript requires a second read, it may take longer.

Flux currently accepts electronic submissions only. Please do not send hard copies unless requested. Outlined below is the procedure for submitting your query and manuscript by email. Note: we do not accept queries or manuscripts on disc or by fax.

Your electronic submission may include the following:
  • In the body of the email, your complete daytime contact information, a brief query/cover letter containing a brief description of the book and, if relevant, a brief description of your qualifications to write it.
  • As a Microsoft-Word-compatible attachment, a synopsis of the book of not more than three pages.
  • As a separate Microsoft-Word-compatible attachment, the complete manuscript. Double spaced is industry standard.
  • Do not include pictures, marketing materials, resumes, or any other extra materials.
  • Address your email to submissions@fluxnow.com.
Note: You may query without sending an attached manuscript or synopsis, if you prefer.

The volume of submissions does not allow us to accept or return phone calls, e-mail, or other inquiries, or to provide comments or feedback on unsolicited manuscripts. We will contact you only if we are interested in your proposal, usually within four months. Please direct your proposal and any additional questions to the addresses below:
